correlation between soluble vascular endothelial growth factor a, its receptor 1 and response to chemotherapy in acute leukemia in children
Authors
abstract
background and objective: vascular endothelial growth factor (vegf) and its receptors (vegf-r1 and r2) are major regulators of angiogenesis. this study was designed to assess serum levels of vegf and vegf-r1 and their prognostic significance in newly diagnosed childhood acute leukemia. materials and methods: for this purpose, vegf and vegf-r1 were determined using enzyme linked immuno-sorbant assay (elisa) in samples obtained before treatment. demographic data were recorded. bone marrow blast percentage was counted on diagnosis and 2 weeks after induction therapy. a p value less than 0.05 considered significant. results: fifty-three children (22 boys and 31 girls) with newly diagnosed acute leukemia were enrolled in the study. most cases (56.6%) were pre b cell all. mean value of vefg-a in good responders was 55.13 ± 24.96 pg/ml and in poor responders it was 94.46 ± 15.75 (p0.05). using roc curve, we found out a cut-off point of 76 pg/ml to discriminate poor response to chemotherapy. conclusion: soluble vegf-a is an independent factor for response to therapy in childhood leukemia and leukemic patients with svegf-a level over 76 pg/ml will have poor response to treatment.

full textPlasma levels of vascular endothelial growth factor and its soluble receptor in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
Introduction: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a clinical pathologic condition, which leads to inflammation events in hepatocytes. The objective of present study was to compare the plasma levels of VEGF and sVEGFR-1 as inflammation factors in overweight and obese children and adolescents with and without NAFLD. Materials and Methods: A total sample of 70 overweight and obese childre...
full textVascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor-1 Expression in Breast Cancer and Its Correlation to Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor A
VEGF-A is the most potent angiogenic factor in tumour angiogenesis. Its effects are mediated via two receptors VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2. Primary aim of our study was to examine the expression of VEGFR-1 in breast cancer and its correlation to VEGF expression, lymph node status, tumour size, histological grade, and hormone receptor status. To examine the VEGFR-1 and VEGF expressions in tumour and sur...
full textStudy of correlation between vascular endothelial growth factor receptor and some prognostic factors in papillary carcinoma of thyroid gland
Background and Objective: Thyroid cancer is the most frequent endocrine malignancy in the world and papillary carcinoma is the most frequent thyroid carcinoma. Different markers used for determination of prognosis and VEGFR is one of them. The aim of present study was to determine the expression of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor (VEGFR) as a prognostic marker in papillary carcinoma...
full textCorrelation between hepatocyte growth factor receptor and vascular endothelial growth factor-A in breast carcinoma.
The aim of the study was to evaluate the prognostic value of the vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) and hepatocyte growth factor receptor (HGFR, c-met) expressions in homogenous group of breast cancer patients. Tumor samples were collected from 98 patients with invasive ductal breast carcinoma stage II treated with primary surgery. We have observed a strong correlation between VEGF-A...
